Remove barriers to efficiency and enable same-day dentistry with Solea.

What if you could remove obstacles that slow you down or limit what you can accomplish in a single visit? When you reliably eliminate the need for anesthesia with Solea®, you simply greet the patient, get started, and stay until treatment is complete.1

You can treat a cavity the same day it is found in hygiene and perform more same day, multi-quadrant dentistry. Take more control over your schedule and delight your patients with the comfort and convenience of Solea dentistry.

“The Solea hard and soft laser is a real game changer. On many routine patient procedures, I very rarely have to use anesthetic, which both saves time and immensely improves the patient experience. Without the needle, numbing, pain or whine and vibration of the drill, many times my patients have no idea on which tooth I am working. They are consistently shocked at how painless the Solea laser is and they tell me they won’t ever go back to the drill. My patients are happier than ever and as a result I’m seeing more new patients than ever.”

Robert C. Hull, D.D.S., P.C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Solea for Restorative Dentistry

REQUEST INFORMATION
Can Solea really perform cavity preparations without anesthesia?

Yes — reliably. The Solea 9.3-micron CO₂ laser is highly absorbed by hydroxyapatite and water, the two primary components of tooth structure. This produces an analgesic effect that allows the vast majority of cavity preparations — Class I through Class V — to be completed without a local anesthetic injection. In a prospective clinical study of 233 procedures on 103 patients, 93% were completed anesthesia-free with very low discomfort scores, and 98% of patients preferred the laser over the traditional drill.

What types of restorative procedures can be done with Solea?

Solea handles the full range of direct restorative work: Class I, II, III, IV, and V cavity preparations, composite removal and replacement, indirect pulp treatment, and same-day multi-quadrant dentistry. It also enables chairside crown lengthening for better margin access, allowing you to complete the restoration the same day. Because there is often no anesthetic, there is no waiting for numbness to set in — you can treat a cavity the same day it is found in hygiene.

How does Solea improve same-day dentistry and scheduling efficiency?

Eliminating anesthetic removes the biggest scheduling constraint in restorative dentistry. There is no injection appointment, no waiting for numbness, and no need to dismiss the patient before treatment can begin. Solea users routinely perform same-day, same-visit, multi-quadrant restorations. Patients leave without numbness, return to work or school immediately, and are more likely to accept treatment on the day it is diagnosed.

Does laser cavity preparation protect the margins of a restoration against recurrent caries?

Research from Tufts School of Dental Medicine found that tooth preparation using the 9.3-micron CO₂ laser produced significantly higher dentin microhardness at subsurface margins adjacent to restorations compared to traditional carbide bur preparation. This increased acid resistance suggests that laser-prepared cavities may reduce secondary caries at restoration margins, potentially extending restoration longevity.

Can Solea remove cemented zirconia crowns?

Yes. The 9.3-micron CO₂ laser can effectively section and debond cemented zirconia crowns. In one documented clinical case, a porcelain-fused-to-zirconia crown on tooth #15 was removed in seconds using Solea — compared to 2–5 minutes with traditional diamond burs — with no trauma to the underlying tooth structure. A laboratory study from Tufts School of Dental Medicine further confirmed the laser’s effectiveness at separating cemented zirconia from dentin.

Will patients notice a difference in the restorative experience with Solea?

Dramatically. Without the needle, the drill noise, or the numbness, most patients describe their first Solea experience as surprising. Patients consistently report that they prefer the laser and actively refer friends and family. In a prospective clinical study, 98% of patients preferred the laser over the traditional drill and 93% of procedures were completed without anesthetic.

Can Solea be used for composite removal and replacement?

Yes. Solea’s shallow penetration depth and precise control make it well suited for removing existing composite restorations without damaging the underlying tooth structure. In documented cases, Class IV composite was removed without anesthetic using Solea, with the same precision used for new preparations. The variable-speed foot pedal gives the clinician full control throughout.
