Dr. Skordeles’ Solea® Story
By Convergent Dental on July 11, 2019
There are dental technologies only suited for certain practices, and then there are dynamic dental technologies that have a place in just about every operatory. Solea, a truly dynamic dental laser technology, fits within this category as it can be used by and benefit general and specialty practitioners regardless of age, where they are in their career, and what they want to accomplish.
Solea is for the South Carolina dentist who just inherited the family business; it is for the dentist living in sunny California, fresh out of dental school with dreams of owning an ultra-modern practice near the Hollywood sign; and Solea is for the New York City-based dentist who believes there is nothing like incorporating science and advanced technology into dentistry.
Meet Christine Skordeles, DDS: one of the newest Solea laser dentists
Dr. Skordeles owns Advanced Aesthetic Smiles of NY, a private practice offering preventive and restorative care through minimally invasive biomimetic dentistry. Coming from a science and research background, Dr. Skordeles instantly knew the type of practice she wanted and how she would treat her patients. In “How an All-Tissue Laser Changed the Life of My Practice,” the dental tech-enthusiast says, “The vision for my practice was clear: it would embrace leading clinical research and incorporate all of the wonderful technologies casinoluck.ca, we as twenty-first century dentists, are so fortunate to have in the palms of our hands.”
In 2018 at the Greater New York Dental Meeting, years after starting her practice, Dr. Skordeles was introduced to Solea: the technology to dramatically transform the way she performs dentistry.
Why Dr. Skordeles loves Solea and believes every dentist should have one
The all-tissue laser of her dreams
Its 9.3 µm wavelength is what makes Solea unique, propelling the CO2 laser to perform clinically better than others on the market. Thanks to the wavelength, Solea provides highly precise cutting and control in both hard tissue and soft tissue. It works by emitting a powerful beam that nears the peak absorption of hydroxyapatite, essentially vaporizing enamel. This is the difference between Solea and other lasers that merely chip away at hard tissue.
In the article, Dr. Skordeles shares her opinion on the distinct feature, saying, “[Solea] prepares teeth, both enamel and dentin, to the precision of cutting 20 percent of one micron which translates to 200 nanometers. That is the game changer. What previous instrument do we have with the precision of 200 nm?”
Removing anesthesia from the dental equation
When dentistry can be performed virtually anesthesia-free, everything changes. Surgery time is significantly reduced, procedures are completed much quicker, and the roadblocks from anesthetization are eliminated. Just imagine a scenario where all you have to do is greet your patient and get started. With Solea, that is the reality. You no longer have to spend time calming them, injecting (and potentially reinjecting), and leaving the room for the anesthesia to take effect. You also don’t have to limit your work or schedule second and third appointments, as Solea lets you perform multiquadrant dentistry.
Dr. Skordeles feels like she is performing truly minimally invasive dentistry for the first time, and can’t say enough about how the anesthesia-free experience has changed her practice. Because of this feature alone, she reveals, “I predict Solea will be part of every operatory within ten years.”
Providing patients with the care and experience they deserve
When it comes to the dental experience, practitioners benefit greatly from a simplified workflow, easier work days, and better case outcomes. However, patients are also provided with a brand new, anxiety-free experience that no longer includes some of the most well-known dental “triggers.” These triggers are fear and anxiety of the needle, awkward discomfort from being numbed, and lengthy recovery times. With Solea, dental visits are now reliably anesthesia-, blood-, and pain-free, and patients can heal from surgery a lot faster.
Dr. Skordeles feels Solea has made a profound impact on her practice, and so do her patients—both those who have been with her for years and new referrals. She says, “[Patients] want to come in, receive treatment, and get right back to the office. Solea makes this possible because, without anesthesia, there is no unnecessary time spent in the chair, no numbness, and no pain… Patient experience before versus now with Solea: there is no comparison.”
Convergent Dental is so excited to have welcomed Dr. Skordeles and other grateful practitioners to the Solea family, and would love to have you become part of it, too!
