What is Solea Sleep? Laser Treatment for Snoring

Introduction

Convergent Dental recently introduced Solea Sleep, creating a whole new reason to utilize the Solea All-Tissue Laser. I integrated Solea Sleep into my practice 10 months ago and have witnessed the transformation in health and happiness for my patients who snored.

In this post, I explain what the Solea Sleep snoring treatment is, why it is important to a dental practice, and show a few examples of how my patients have responded to the treatment.

What is Solea Sleep?

Solea Sleep is a simple to administer, low-power application on the Solea All-Tissue Dental Laser that provides rapid relief for snoring by tightening the soft palate and reducing vibrations that cause patients to snore. Unlike other laser sleep treatments that require up to 4 sessions lasting 30 minutes each, Solea Sleep is a single, non-surgical treatment that takes 5 minutes to administer with long-lasting results.

Why is Solea Sleep Important?

67% of adults snore – which means a large part of a general dentist’s patient population snores. Snoring can affect all aspects of a patient’s life, including their health and relationships. Until Solea Sleep, patients’ options were limited.

Snoring can dramatically affect the quantity and quality of a person’s sleep. Restful sleep is essential for both physical and mental health, and even contributes to an improved immune system. Poor sleep can negatively affect a person’s moods, concentration, and stress levels. Poor sleep can also raise the risk for some chronic health problems, including diabetes, depression, and heart disease.

Snoring also has negative effects on personal relationships. The non-snoring partner often feels frustrated and angry that their loved one is keeping them from a good night’s sleep, and couples can end up sleeping in different bedrooms.

Solea Sleep allows dentists to offer a fast, painless, single-session solution for patients who snore with long-lasting results, leading to more restful sleep for both the patient and their partner.

How Does Solea Sleep Work?

Solea Sleep provides rapid relief for snoring by tightening the soft palate and reducing vibrations that cause patients to snore. Laser energy disrupts the cross-linking of collagen fibers in the tissue layers of the soft palate, causing collagen to contract and increasing the stiffness of the tissue. Cells and collagen, now in closer proximity, may also form new connections that further increase tissue stiffness over time. By tightening these tissue layers, Solea Sleep reduces the vibrations that cause patients to snore.

The penetration depth of Solea in soft tissue makes all the difference. Solea efficiently delivers energy to deeper tissue layers that contain high concentrations of collagen without ablating superficial tissue layers. The tissue is gently warmed at the perfect depth in the soft palate, resulting in rapid contraction and instant results.
