Solea® Perioguide™ is a minimally invasive laser therapy designed to effectively treat periodontitis while reducing
patient discomfort and accelerating healing.1,2,3 This case highlights how the protocol provided rapid resolution of
bleeding and inflammation and significant pocket depth reduction. It further demonstrates how Solea Perioguide
can deliver predictable clinical results while enhancing the overall patient experience.3
A 34-year-old male patient presented with concerns of bleeding gums and some pain, having not had dental care in
many years. He had no significant medical history and is a non-smoker. The initial exam revealed significant plaque and calculus buildup, with all teeth in both the upper and lower left quadrants bleeding on probing.
The patient was diagnosed with periodontitis, and laser periodontal therapy was recommended.
The primary goal was to restore periodontal health by thoroughly debriding and disinfecting the affected area, then scaling and root planing (SRP) to remove plaque and calculus using a minimally invasive method
The patient was anesthetized with 4 carpules of 4% septocaine with 1:200k epinephrine. The Solea Perioguide laser-assisted periodontal surgery allowed for de-epithelialization of the inner lining of the pocket and debridement of granulation tissue, enabling deep SRP with minimal bleeding. No sutures were needed.
Remarkably, the healing time was reduced to just one week compared to a potential six weeks using traditional methods. Clinical presentation was consistent with a healthy periodontium by 2 weeks.
Eight-month follow-up revealed notable improvements in periodontal health following Solea treatment. Reduction in pocket depths and inflammation is evident in the post-treatment charts. A 100% reduction in bleeding in the upper quadrant and more than an 85% reduction in the lower quadrant was observed. Teeth presenting persistent bleeding have restorative work that needs to be replaced.
Hygiene and Home Care: At the last appointment, the patient presented with generally adequate oral hygiene. The patient has been consistently using CloSYS® oral rinse since the day of treatment, which supports ongoing periodontal health.
Periodontal Maintenance: The patient will now enter a periodontal maintenance phase to preserve the improvements achieved. Regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor oral health and ensure continued progress.
This case demonstrates the effectiveness of Solea Perioguide for the management of periodontitis. Within 8 months, the patient exhibited dramatic improvements in pocket depth, inflammation, and bleeding. Treatment was comfortable, healing was rapid, and patient satisfaction was high. Solea Perioguide represents a minimally invasive, predictable, and patient-friendly approach to periodontal therapy compared to traditional surgical methods.
