Senior Research Engineer

Position Summary:

Senior Research Engineer sought by Convergent Dental, Inc., headquartered at 140 Kendrick Street, Building C-3, Needham, MA 02494.  This is a full-time, permanent, immediately available job opportunity that does not require travel.  Must live within a reasonable, daily commuting distance of Needham, MA or in Needham itself. Note that telecommuting (working remotely from home) is not permitted.

Position Scope and Responsibilities:

Apply sound engineering principles and practices to the design and testing of a laser device and beam delivery system.
Read and synthesize biomedical research papers relative to dental hard and soft tissue ablation, carbonate removal, sterilization, and tissue reattachment.
Present the relevant research in a comprehensive understandable landscape form as required. Design and conduct experiments (in vitro) and tests to fully evaluate device prototypes and develop improvements that lead to commercially viable products.
Apply statistical methods to design appropriate experiments and determine confidence in experimental results.
Develop and execute test plans, write protocols, analyze and present results, make recommendations, and write reports applying statistics as necessary.
Develop and implement design elements for medical laser devices, focusing elements, pulsing patterns, laser parameter designation.
Collaborate to drive the design of prototypes and plan for bench evaluation on extracted teeth of new design attributes and product concepts (i.e. use SolidWorks® CAD software).
Work with and provide oversight to suppliers on the design and procurement of components, tooling and fixtures for the design, testing, inspection or assembly of products.
Stay abreast with latest relevant technology through literature, seminars, conferences, academia and industry.
Guide the activities of technicians.
Participate in project teams; define deliverables, milestones and time lines as part of project planning.
Support execution of external bench and animal testing.
Meet document control requirements including lab notebook, protocol, report, and change order requirements in accordance with company procedures.
Participate in the generation of Design Control activities and deliverables including Product Specifications, Risk Management, Design Verification and Validation.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

Requires a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Plus 18 months of experience with: product development experience related to lasers focusing on product design development to clinical or commercial initiation; and experience with lasers, optical methods and optical coating.
Knowledge of laser-tissue interaction through graduate-level coursework also required.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary:

Performs senior level mechanical engineering work requiring recognized expertise in this discipline of engineering. Plans and oversees work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Technical Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 8+ years of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience within a complex systems driven environment, minimum of three years working in a medical device/regulated environment preferred.
Knowledge of IEC60601 Standards for Medical Device Development.
Troubleshooting and provision of resolutions related to production processes and/or product reject problems, etc.
Knowledge of statistical and analytical tools (i.e. FEA) with ability to understand interactions between equipment/process/product, and able to draw sound conclusions from the data.
Excellent knowledge of GD&T including True Position methods.
Project management competence (methods and software), with a successful history of meeting project deadlines.
Fully fluent using SolidWorks CAD software

Senior Electrical Engineer

Position Summary:

To lead the design and development of electronics for the company’s dental laser system product lines.

Primary Responsibilities:

Translate product requirements to develop architectural solutions to key technical challenges
Work with the multidisciplinary team to deliver complete system solutions and products
Hands-on design of electronics that successfully integrate with electromechanical and software subsystems
Specification and selection of key electronics components, modules, and subsystems with supply chain considerations
Managing of consulting and external resources as required to meet the design, build, test, and transfer to manufacturing schedules.
Follow design control SOPs to produce high quality documentation to the ISO 13485 standard

Technical skill set to include:

Electronics and embedded systems architecture and circuit design
